The delegation that traveled to Nicaragua last March has been meeting via Skype with the parishes in El Cacao over this past year. They would like to share with you some basic information that you may not know about our potential sister parish. These “Did you Know” facts will be posted on a weekly basis. Be sure to look for them, and get to know our brother and sisters in Nicaragua!
Did you know….
The Diocese of Gaylord as part of our Solidarity Partnership has been assisting in providing medical help to the region since 2006. More than 20 medical and dental missions to help the people of the region have been accomplished. Most of the common medical issues are related to malnutrition, dehydration, basic hygiene and parasites. Many in our Diocese have supported the trips financially, with their own hard work, with medications and their prayers. During the visits, medical personnel and other volunteers from both Dioceses travel out to outlying remote communities in the region offering free basic medical care.
The Diocese of Gaylord together with the Diocese of Matagalpa has seen the need for bringing more serious medical assistance directly to the people in the more remote regions. Through fundraising, the hard work of many and the grace of our Lord, our Diocese assisted the Diocese of Matagalpa to purchase a Mobile Medical Unit (MMU). Our delegation from BVCC were blessed to be present for the first use of the MMU in the town of El Cacao. You can support the next medical mission through a donation directly on the Diocese of Gaylord website. Select the “Make a Gift” tab and specify that your donation go to the Matagalpa medical outreach missions.
Let us continue to pray for our brothers and sisters in Nicaragua during this very difficult time.
