Last evening I received the attached decree from Bishop Raica concerning the re-opening of churches in our Diocese. As you will see from the decree, Churches may begin reopening after May 20th. In order to so, many protocols must be adhered to and put in place. I believe the list of protocols is seven pages long. The Bishop highlighted a few of them in his decree.
With that said, our target date for opening will be May 30th and 31st. We have begun to work on some of the protocols already, but we have many more to put in place. As I have said from the beginning, I will not open any churches until we have completed all the protocols and have made our worship spaces as safe as possible. You may see some other churches opening before us. That will be their decision. I feel comfortable that we can do so safely by Pentecost weekend.
I will be sending you more detailed information in the coming days concerning what to expect if you come to Mass. I will also be working with ushers/greeters, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion and Readers, as their ministry will be changing. I will also be working with our new sanitizing crews.
Through all of this….Jesus, I Trust in You.
